Welcome
to Forster Gallery Zanzibar

My connection with Zanzibar began back in 2004. After returning to Switzerland in 2008, the island remained an important part of my life. From 2012 onwards, I divided my time between Switzerland and Zanzibar, where I opened the Art Hotel Zanzibar. Since 2017, I have been living here permanently, dedicating myself to contemporary art through Forster Gallery.

Forster Gallery Zanzibar is an international meeting place for art and people. For centuries, Zanzibar has been a crossroads of cultures and influences from around the world. Today, tourism also contributes to this international atmosphere. Our gallery brings artists together with art enthusiasts and collectors from across the globe.

We present contemporary art in all its diversity, with Africa’s vibrant art scenes at the heart of our programme. What matters to us are the individual perspectives, themes and forms of expression of the artists themselves. Our Open Studio is a lively part of the gallery. Here, artists work for a limited period, giving visitors the opportunity to meet them, engage in conversation and experience their creative process first-hand.

We are happy to advise you on building and developing your art collection and to support you beyond your gallery visit through our international network.

We would be delighted to take the time to welcome you personally. Please arrange an appointment before your visit.
